for the education of girls. We grown-up members of the community can only express our gratitude to Mr. Belilios by words, but you have it in your power, girls, to show your gratitude by deeds. It will be well if you realise that each one of you, individually, owes something to Mr. Belilios, and the way you can best show your appreciation of his benevolence and generosity is by steady application to your studies, by making most of the advantages you will receive in this school, and, in short, by emulating the busy bee of our childhood past by improving each shining hour you spend as pupils under this roof. (Applause).

Mr. Belilios, of course, and very naturally, values the admiration and esteem of the members of this community, but his highest and best reward must come from you girls; that reward will be the knowledge that in this building, for whose erection he has spent some of the money he possesses, some of the future wives and mothers of Hong-kong are receiving a training which will enable them to perform the duties of life to which they may be called, whether they will be great or small. You must remember that such common tasks as the making of a bed or the sweeping of a room can be the better done when intelligence is brought to their performance. (Applause).

I think the only thing that can mar the complete success of this interesting ceremony is the absence of Mrs. Belilios, (Hear, hear). We miss her kind and sympathetic presence, and we cannot but regret that she is not here to give her loving support to Mr. Belilios in what must be to him one of the proudest and happiest moments of his life. (Loud applause).

I have only now to thank you for this beautiful banquet. The flowers, we know, must fade, but the recollection of this afternoon will long live in the memories of each one of us. (Loud applause).

Tea and refreshments were then served in the schoolrooms and the public strolled round the building. A very memorable occasion was brought to a successful close about six o'clock.
